Dandelion School
Dandelion School is a 5A-rated charitable nonprofit school. Founded in Beijing in 2005, it was the city’s first privately run nonprofit junior high school specifically established to serve migrant children. Its students come from thousands of villages across 27 provinces and regions of China.
Most come from low-income families, and many face particularly difficult circumstances. More than 70% of the school’s funding comes from charitable donations, while around 20% of disadvantaged students receive additional financial assistance to ensure that no child has to leave school for financial reasons. Over the past 20 years, Dandelion School has educated more than 3,000 migrant children. Many students arrive with significant gaps in their academic foundations. Rather than relying on intensive test preparation, the school offers more than 20 extracurricular clubs and organizes project-based learning every week.
From 2012 to 2026, 98% of graduates continued their education at academic or vocational high schools. Some have gone on to study at leading universities in China and abroad, while others have developed vocational skills and built careers in professional and technical fields. One former student, Mengyu Duan, returned to teach at Dandelion School after completing a master’s degree at Harvard.
