December 1st – The annual Deutscher Charitybasar successfully concluded at the German Embassy in Beijing. This year’s event drew over 10,000 visitors and volunteers, setting a new attendance record.

Upon entering the embassy grounds, visitors were greeted by the rich aromas of grilled German sausages, spiced mulled wine, and freshly baked Nuremberg gingerbread—specially ordered traditional treats that have become a signature highlight of the experience. The beautifully decorated wooden stalls buzzed with activity, energized by enthusiastic volunteers. The space was transformed into a magical winter wonderland, filled with the laughter of children and visits from “Christmas angels.” As German Ambassador to China, Dr. Patricia Flor, noted during the event: “The Christmas market brings joy to us, our families, and our children, while also serving as a charity event. We want to help people in need.”

The scale of this event was made possible by tremendous community effort. The 44 sponsors provided crucial support, with many company employees volunteering on-site to ensure every detail, from food preparation to handicraft sales, was executed flawlessly. The involvement of the 11 charitable organizations is core to the event’s mission. Since its inception in 1999, all proceeds have been dedicated to charitable causes. This year’s funds will continue to support vulnerable groups.

The Deutscher Charitybasar has become an essential and warmly anticipated tradition in Beijing’s winter calendar, year after year writing a touching story of sharing, compassion, and hope. We look forward to seeing you next year!
